At Canadian Finishing Systems, we’ve always been proud of our track record for offering a wide range of metal cleaners for the automotive, aerospace, jewellery, paint and powder coat, plumbing and electronics industries. With over 45 years of experience in metal finishing, plating and painting, our founder, Ken Lemke, has kept pace with innovations in the industry and explored countless options for distributing safer, less toxic metal cleaners to our customers while still providing the exceptional cleaning capabilities demanded by highly sensitive industrial applications.

Partnering With Eco-Friendly Leaders

Canadian Finishing Systems carefully tests and monitors all of the products we offer, including solvents and metal cleaners. We’re proud to partner with Petroferm cleaning products, a leader in safe, environmentally friendly cleaners. Three Questions To Ask When Choosing Masking Supplies

Posted on: January 3rd, 2014 by canadianfinishing No Comments

There is a variety of industrial masking supplies on the market today that can be used for everything from industrial metal finishing to professional painters’ applications. Choosing the appropriate masking supplies or tape for your needs is essential to getting the results you’re seeking without problems such as bleed-through or loss of adhesion. Asking the right questions will help you narrow down the list of masking supplies that will work for your purposes.

1. What Is The Temperature Resistance Of The Tape?

If you’re working with baked-on finishes, you’ll need a tape that can withstand extreme temperatures. Look for a product that will stand up to temperatures up to 120 degrees Celsius or 250 degrees Fahrenheit without burning away or fusing to the metal you’re painting, powder coating or finishing. You will also need to consider how long your masking supplies can withstand the high temperatures they will be exposed to. A brief few seconds of high heat is considerably different from 30 minutes.

2. What Is The Holding Strength Of The Masking Supplies?

For standard applications such as painting at room temperature, most standard masking tapes for painting or industrial applications will work. If you need something that will withstand more friction or abrasive applications, look for a high level of holding strength. You’ll also want a higher holding strength if you’ll need the tape to adhere for long periods of time.

3. What Level Of Conformability Do You Need?

If you need sharp, clean lines and are working on objects that have irregular edges, curves or uneven outlines, be sure that you choose masking supplies with a high degree of conformability. High conformability ensures crisp, clean lines without bleed-through around even extreme curves or rough edges.

If you aren’t sure which masking supplies are right for your needs, give Canadian Finishing a call at (905) 634-5168 or fill out our simple information request form online and we’ll help you determine the appropriate masking supplies for your needs.
